End of the course

My experience concerning e-learning is unfortunately not very good.
In the beginning I expected to improve my Russian knowledge and I was quite enthusiastic about the course I chose. I seem to have made a mistake when I chose the course. It was advertised to be a course for beginners who would probably like to live in Russia. The description offered a lot of practical knowledge, making me believe that this would be the perfect possibility for me.
The thing I ...
Unit 7- Shopping
7 éve
It teaches us to buy rings, earrings, matryoshka dolls and samovars. Everything you need to buy in Russia, I guess.
Numbers are practiced here which is very useful (at least something). There are some useful short conversations about buying food, but a lot more items could/ should be taught. Weight, liquid and length measures are practiced. The trouble is the same as before, many words are mentioned in Russian but are not translated into English. There is a nice long wordlist at the ...
Unit 6-Where do you live?
7 éve
This unit is shorter than the others. Interestingly, useful things are taught here through tasks which can be difficult for someone who has no background knowledge at all. They use a lot of words which are unexplained and some things are missing what could be added to the material. An interesting thing is that they teach tens 20-100 here, I do not understand why. This unit took about 15 minutes to complete. ...
Unit 5- Where do you work?
7 éve
This unit starts with dialogs containing complicated words. After that there is a list of offices in Moscow, which is not so useful if we consider that this is a course for beginners. A lot of words remain unclear and the whole unit is kind of illogically built up. For example I do not get why but they teach numbers here. Something good: there a lot of nice tasks.
It also contains some grammar and a wordlist.
All in all this unit is not too useful either. I am starting to ...
Unit 4- Family

I just discovered that some fo the units contain recorded sound in which they read out the material. It is useful but very very slow for me, they repeat everything 2-4 times and it is impossible to navigate within the soundtrack.
The unit starts with quite complicated questions and answers out of the blue. The translation is there but I think it still requires background knowledge. After that they list a couple of family members. Later they list simple questions and answers, which is ...
Unit 3- Meeting people

I can not say much about this unit.
It was logically built up, taught how to say hello, how to give adresses and things like that. It also listed a lot of first and last names.
There were no tasks this time. It took about 35 minutes to look through, but I already knew most of the things from high school.
The layout is still dead boring. I still hope the next chapter will be a little more ...
Unit 2- Geography
7 éve
This unit taught me some things I did not know, but I am getting bored with seeing the loads of copied pages. It really looks horrible. I also have problems with the content of the unit.
This section is a little shorter than the first one, but it is quite time demanding to learn and read everything. There are still a lot of excercises which are impossible to do without a flesh and blood teacher.
In the beginning it gives a small introduction to the ...
Unit 1- Alphabet
7 éve
The first unit was very easy for me. I already knew the letters and I can read and write words so this part was not difficult at all. The unit is good for beginners. It is understandable and it has very good explanations. The tasks in the end show that they are mostly for in-class studying, many of them are supposed to be read out by the teacher/instructor who is obviously missing here. Other than that they are easily doable. The only thing I am missing is feedback. At the end there is a ...
Starting point

I decided to take a free Russian course I found on the site worldmentoringacademy.com. I used to have Russian lessons in high school but did not really succeed in learning the language because I did not take it too seriously at that time. I remember the alphabet and some words, nothing more. I noticed that many Russians are coming to Hungary nowadays, so the demand for people who speak the language is growing. This course is a good opportunity for me to practice and improve my knowledge. I ...
